Lunch with Dad

It's their first time out in public together in years - and standing outside the hot dog stand she can't help but worry.

She has things to tell him that he has to hear and she couldn't say any of them over a phone.

A few moments later, she spots him walking toward her.

"Somehow I doubt it. Besides, as long as you're not going to step on anything that'll cut your foot, going barefoot can be better for running than some shoes. Like heels."

She stops, falling behind him by a few feet, and looks at him.

"Heels? Exactly what kind of undercover work have you done, Dad?"

He gives her a mildly exasperated look. "Not from personal experience. I've had to run with female witness or government agent more than once when she was wearing heels, and often it would have been as useful to throw her over my shoulder and carry her."

She giggles, "I'll be sure to tell Chris that you think you run faster than her. But I somehow doubt you could carry anyone right now."

"Well I don't know that I could run faster than her right now, or carry her, no. In shape and with her in heels, though, yeah."

She jogs a little to catch up to him, "That sounds like a challenge."

"Yeah, well it's one that'll have to wait a while."

"I don't know, you couldn't do this a few weeks ago," she points out. "Maybe you could go running with Chase sometime?"

"Yeah, though he might not find it all that fun to have to stick with my pace."

"Maybe he can carry Angie on his back, kind of a handicapping. Like in horse races."
