Memory modification

There is a man with dark blond hair sitting in a booth. Across from him is a man with dark hair and deep eyes. Suddenly, bands of color appear and seem to engulf the blond haired man.

Kim blinks and the colors disappear. With a slight bow, the dark haired man leaves and walks over to her.

"I have done what I can for him, Lady Kim," the man's voice is cool and controlled.

She looks up at him, recognizing him. "Thank you, Jasin. I only hope that it works," she finds herself saying.

"The modification had to be quite...extensive," Jasin tells her.

"You told me it would only --"

"But I think I fixed him," he continues.

"He's better now?"

"I believe so," there's something odd in his voice but Kim ignores it and Jasin leaves.

She goes over to the booth.

"Dad?" She smiles a little.

He looks up, a confused expression on his face.

"I'm sorry, I think you have the wrong table." He smiles at her politely.

"You don't remember me?"

"I don't have any children so I know you can't be my daughter," he returns to reading.

"But I am your daughter,"

He glances at her, "Trust me, you're not...unless your mom told you I was, but I have no idea who you are."

"Do you remember my mom?"

He laughs, "There have been a lot of women."

And Kim realizes what kind of modification has happened. She looks at her dad, who does seem happier, but there's something missing in his eyes.

'He's happy because he's no longer conflicted' she thinks and rubs her arms.

Jasin appears behind her.

"What did you do to him?"

"I merely removed the source of his problem," Jasin says calmly.

Kim opens her eyes and sits up slowly. She starts to stand but she feels like she's moving through molasses. She doesn't want to think of what that dream might mean. Instead, she forces herself to get ready and go downstairs.
