Kim's come into the bar to get away from the stress of the outside. If someone had told her that she would come to the bar to escape stress a few years ago she would have thought they were obviously high.

For the first time in a while, she's not here to see anyone, just to relax. She's listening to a song on her iPod that she vaguely remembers from 2007.

Emo Punk isn't really helping her feel better so she switches to something a little more mellow.

As she's sitting in the booth she notices a familiar dark haired man trying to slouch his way down to normal size and about to walk right past her.

"Yeah, me either," he says, with what passes for amiability with Adam. "Can we blame the Bar for that?"

He has learned to relax and have a slight sense of humor, when his unit isn't dealing with severe terror threats so often. Shame that it's all going to be ruined in a few weeks, really.

"It's totally the bar's fault," she agrees with a slight smile. "You're lucky that you have a permanent door, I used to have to wait for one to appear and sometimes that was...a long time."

"It's not really permanent, just kinda semi-regular, but I think that's what Bar does for most people once she's brainwashed them into liking her."

"In a real emergency I can get here, but I mostly wait for the door." Gating is exhausting and very easy to mess up.

Adam thinks for a moment about what Lyrae told him, about Kim being one of the Bar's few channelers. He just doesn't get that.

"How do you get here without a door?" he asks slowly.

She takes a breath. "I kind of...have you met any channelers here?"

Instead of becoming easier, she feels awkward almost every time she tells people about her abilties.

He runs a hand through his hair, knowing Kim doesn't have any reason to bullshit him.

"Yeah, I know Lyrae. She mentioned..."

"She did?" She doesn't know why she's surprised. "Lyrae would I guess, she doesn't understand that channelling isn't normal where we're from..." she sighs. "That's why I had to go back to CTU, I thought maybe I could use these abilities somehow."

He's envisioning Kim out in the field, blasting terrorists with magical fire. It's not quite working.

"It's a nice idea in theory, Kim, but...how can you do it without people noticing?"

She looks down at her hands. "I don't really know, that's the problem - I'm hoping that I can figure it out." It's probably not necessary, but she has to tell him.

"Adam, you can't tell anyone at CTU."

He raises an eyebrow at her.

"What would I say? Even if I wanted to? I mean, superpowers aside, what happens in Milliways stays in Milliways."

She gives him a small smile. "That's....very true," and her neck is starting to hurt a little from straining to look at him. "Want to sit?"

That...would be a good idea, yeah. He slides into the seat across the booth.

"This friend of mine--he was trying to convince me that it was possible for someone from my world to have superhuman powers, without my being aware of it, and I pretty much told him he was full of shit." He rubs the back of his neck.

"Guess I'll have to buy him a drink or something. I just won't tell him why."

"Anything's possible," she agrees. "I mean it's okay if you tell people here...almost everyone from home knows."

He probably looks a bit relieved--it's easy to fuck up and let things slip here that one shouldn't.

"How did you end up being able to do it, though? I mean--did the powers just start showing up one day and you had to come here to find out what they were?"

"Not exactly," Kim goes on to tell him the story quickly, leaving out a few details.

"I did have to find a teacher here."

"Well, that was probably easy; there are a bunch of Channelers around here, aren't there?"

Yes, Adam, of course it's that simple.

She gives him a look. "If you ever meet a woman who looks like Nina but is a few inches taller, run."

"Last time I met Nina here, she hit on me. If I ever see her again, I'm running anyway."

"Nina would sleep with anything that had a pulse," she flushes slightly as she realizes that she just insulted him. "I mean - not that you're..."

If he'd been drinking anything, he probably would have choked on it just there.

"Thanks, Kim." He glowers--hey, that looks familiar--but he's not as offended as all that.

"Yeah, no, I'll...keep that in mind. I can identify with having issues with evil lookalikes."

Not that Nina...isn't evil...

Maybe it's just something about Sarah Clarke.

She just offended a number of people with that comment. Including her dad.

"It was more of a comment about her..." she trails off, realizing that it's better just to let it rest.

"You have an evil look alike?"

Oh, pssh, anything that had a pulse would be happy to sleep with Jack Bauer. Even some inanimate objects want to jump him.

"Yeah. Calls himself Sylar. If you ever see a guy who looks exactly like me, but batshit crazy, run."
